The Temppeliaukio Kirkko or known as the Rock Church is designed by architect brothers Timo and Tuomo Suomalainen. It was completed in year 1969 after the current lot for the church had being empty for 50 years plus. The church is a combination of both natural rocky setting with man made features. The 24 diameter dome, supported by concrete struts, protudes slightly above the grade.Light penetrates into the church from the glazing between the dome and the natural(quarry stone walls) .
Interior of the church The church is built of blocks of natural granite in the middle of an ordinary residential square, From the outside, an irregular wall of rubble seem protecting the church.
