HISTORY OF DARUL KURNIA

DARUL KURNIA WAS BUILT BY ABANG HJ ABDILLAH BIN DATU BANDAR ABANG HJ KASSIM FOR RESIDENTIAL PURPOSES IN 1930 . IT WAS ONLY REGISTERED UNDER THE NAME OF DATU PATINGGI ABANG HJ ABDILLAH ON 15TH SEPTEMBER, 1947.

THIS BUILDING IS LOCATED AT HAJI TAHA ROAD AND TJE LAND IT STANDS COVERS 1.98 ACRES.DATU PATINGGI DIED ON 21ST NOVEMBER, 1946 AND THE PROPERTY WAS INHERITED BY HIS FIVE GRANDDAUGHTERS.
IN APRIL 1948, THE COURT ORDERED THE LAND TO BE RETURNED TO THE ESTATE OF DATU PATINGGI ABANG HJ ABDILLAH AND WAS LATER MANAGED BY HIS ELDEST GRANDSON. IN JUNE 1949,

THE PROPERTY WAS SOLD TO A CHINESE NAMED MR ONG KWAN HIN FOR $30,000.00 AND THE BUILDING WAS ONCE USED AS THE OFFICE FOR CHINA EMBASSTOR.
IN 1972, IT WAS HANDED OVER TO THE SARAWAK CHINESE COMMUNITY CHARITABLE TRUST BOARD WHO THEN RENTED TO CHUNG HUA SCHOOL ADMINISRATION FOR $100.00 A MONTH UNTIL YEAR 2002.

CURRENTLY, DARUL KURNIA IS OFFICIALY THE PREMISES OF CHUNG HUA MIDDLE SCHOOL NO 4. (RESOURCE TAKEN FROM SARAWAK MUSEUM, 1995, HISTORICAL BUILDINGS, MONUMENTS AND SITES IN SARAWAK)
