Malaysia's Green Building Index was officially launched on the 21st May 2009. Green Building Index is initiated by PAM and jointly developed with Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM), aiming to lead Malaysia built environment into sustainability development, and also to raise awareness among architects, designers, engineers, planners & public.
Through this greenbuilding index, a GBI assessment process will be started to rate a building from the design stage till it is first occupied. The accessment is based on 6 criterias:
1. energy efficiency
2. Indoor environmental quality
3. Sustainable site planning and management
4. material and resources
5. water efficiency
6. innovation.
Buildings which are environmental friendly, energy efficient, reduce waste production and good quality of indoor living will be awarded according to the GBI classification.
Seminar and Greenbuilding Index design forum will be held continuously to promote the importance of the launch of GBI.
Green Buildings:
- designed to save energy and resources, recycle materials minimizes emission of unwanted gas.
- harmonise with local climate, traditions, culture and surrounding environment
- sustain and improve quality of human life
- improve the efficient use of resources
