CITATIONS
Rubber Research Institute Of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur

Built in 1936 the research centre is on exemplary Architecture of the Art Deco genre. It has played a pivotal role in propelling Malaysia as the world抯 largest producer at one stage.

The Measured Drawings of Rubber Research Institute Of Malaysia was completed under the Mubin Sheppard Memorial Prize Inaugural Measured Drawings Grant 2007.

The drawings and report is a group project by 7 Year 1 students from Universiti Malaya. Two buildings of this sprawling complex namely, the Administration block and the material specification laboratory were subjects of the measured drawings.

The Plans and Elevations were computer drawn. Details such as ironmongeries, decorative elements of the building facades were handdrawn. Measurements were recorded in Imperial scale, the original unit of measure deployed in design and construction. Supported by a report covering its historical environmental and architectural perspectives, the set of measured drawings convey to the reader a clear, accurate representation of the planning, structure and construction of the chosen buildings. In so doing, it contributes to an in depth understanding of the building type.

The jury considered the completed set of 37 drawings to be comprehensive, well laid out and meticulously drawn. Quality of line work of isometric, ornaments drawings are effective, and convey the texture and character of the building. The murals at the east and west elevations of the library were intricately reproduced in drawings. The Jury accord the submission as a Winner in the Measured Drawings category.
